Job Opportunity: Cardiac Tele Registered Nurse

Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care for adult to geriatric patients in a cardiac telemetry setting.
  • Manage continuous IV medications including cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin), diuretics (Bumex, Lasix), anticoagulants (Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin), and insulin drips.
  • Patient population includes overflow IMCU, arrhythmia management, cardioversion, cardiac CHF, chest pain, renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT, surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains), occasional vascular, post cardiac cath with TR Bands, DKA, occasional ortho or CVA overflow.
  • Basic arrhythmia knowledge required.
  • Unit census: 32 beds with nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:5-6.
  • Use of Epic (preferred), Pyxis, and SBAR communication system.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.
  • Floating within the facility as needed.
  • Call is rare; response time 2 hours. Travelers typically do not manage Precedex.
  • Weekend shifts typically every other weekend; permanent staff scheduled first.
  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM).
  • Maximum return-to-office (RTO) time per contract: 7 days.
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, must work it; if 2, must work both; if 3, must work 2. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment.
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience managing continuous IV medications including cardiac drips, diuretics, anticoagulants, and insulin drips.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as specified.
  • Education verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start required.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed.
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed.
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC).
  • References: 2 clinical references required.
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months required.
  • Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).

Work Environment & Additional Information

  • Overflow unit includes IMCU and medical/surgical patients.
  • Floating within the facility as needed and within scope of practice.
  • Travelers fill in gaps in weekend scheduling after permanent staff.
  • Orientation hours are non-billable and proportional to contract length.
  • Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling.
  • Candidates will undergo clinical screening to determine fit before final manager approval.
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers.
