Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Georgia

Location

• Hinesville, Georgia (approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, near the ocean)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Emergency Room with 18 beds including 3 trauma bays
• Not a STEMI or stroke receiving center; working toward Level IV Critical Access Hospital status
• Separate triage area; travelers may work triage depending on experience
• No separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed and managed by ER nurses
• Two safety rooms available for psych patients (not a separate psych area)
• In-house security on weekends; working toward 24/7 coverage
• Average patient volume: ~90 patients/day, up to 140 during peak season
• Nurse-to-patient ratio generally 1:4-5 depending on acuity

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• General ER cases including abdominal pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID-19, shortness of breath, chest pain, stroke/CVA with TPA, psychiatric cases, motor vehicle accidents, some trauma (stabilize and transfer), diabetic ketoacidosis, sickle cell, hypertension
• STEMI patients are sent out

Clinical Responsibilities

• Manage all common ER and critical care drips
• Must be proficient with IVs and drips
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment including ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow devices
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently (telemetry monitors in every room except safety rooms)
• Draw labs alongside techs
• Assist with splinting, vital signs, and other tech duties as needed

Staffing & Support

• ED staffed by MDs and mid-level providers; typically 1 MD and 1 mid-level during the day, with plans to add a 3rd provider
• Charge nurse on every shift who also takes patient assignments
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) present with general tech duties and lab draws
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7 (one RT on at night)
• Radiology (X-ray and CT) available 24/7 with in-hospital transport

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts (7a, 12p, 3p, 7p)
• Self-scheduling allowed but requires manager approval; block scheduling permitted
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday shifts rotated with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating to other units (e.g., Med-Surg)

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue; scrub jacket must be same color or white

Required Certifications & Experience

• Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications
• Preferred: TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Additional Notes

• Facility uses T-system EMR
• Ultrasound and vein finder available for ER and Med-Surg
• Pharmacy available onsite until 5 p.m.; resource nurse assists with medication mixing and instructions
• Masking policy: not required if vaccinated; face mask and shield required if unvaccinated
• Emphasis on customer service and patient satisfaction
• High patient load and acuity; experience from smaller community hospitals preferred over typical Critical Access Hospitals

• Night shift (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
• 12 hours per day, approximately 36 hours per week
