Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Coon Rapids, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work in Mother Baby Center covering both labor and post-partum care.
- Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, rotating between days (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
- Average daily census: approximately 8 deliveries and 15 post-partum patients per day.
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs.
- Weekend work: every other weekend.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- Local candidates within 100-mile radius are not accepted.
- Pending Minnesota nursing license accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Minnesota (pending license accepted).
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients.
- Experience in post-partum care.
- Sterile vaginal exam experience.
- Proficient in fetal monitoring including:
- External fetal monitoring
- Internal fetal monitoring
- Intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience managing and administering epidural anesthesia.
- Certifications required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Facility and Work Environment
- Acute care teaching hospital with Level 2 Trauma Center designation.
- Total staffed beds: 258.
- Electronic charting system: Epic (Excellian).
- No parking fees.
- Scrub color provided by the unit.
- Facility is latex-free; notify if you have latex allergy.
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Criminal background check required within one year of start date, including Minnesota statewide search.
- MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required prior to start; candidates cannot begin with fingerprints pending unless a specific exemption letter is provided.
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without approved exemption)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions accepted)
- Hepatitis B: positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no exemptions accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing.
- Drug testing (9-panel) within 1 year required but not for client clearance.
- Photo for badge: passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of signing contract.
Training and Competency
- Completion of assigned online pre-orientation modules within 72 hours of receiving login credentials (approximately 11.5 hours for L&D RNs).
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required.
Additional Notes
- Clinician may be canceled up to 3 shifts without penalty.
- No on-call requirement.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions: ideally no more than 5 days.
- References are not required for client clearance and will not delay start.
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
