Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Infectious Disease
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (1900-0730) with a 30-minute lunch break
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights)
Holiday Requirement: Based on unit needs; travelers may be expected to work holidays if permanent staff coverage is insufficient
Unit & Patient Information
- Unit: 1E MedSurg/Infectious Disease
- 18 beds, all private rooms due to infectious disease precautions
- Patient types: Infectious diseases including COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, isolation cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:5-6 typically
- 1:4 if COVID positive
- Staffing: 3-4 RNs per shift, plus 2 CNAs per shift
- Respiratory support: No ventilators; patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy
- Telemetry: Remote telemetry monitored from another floor; RNs do not interpret cardiac strips
- Charge Nurse: 24/7 coverage; night charge nurse always takes a full patient assignment
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- EPIC experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Strong knowledge of MedSurg nursing, infectious disease protocols, and isolation precautions
- Ability to manage typical MedSurg IV medications and antibiotics; no cardiac drip titration required
Orientation & Training
- 1 day EPIC orientation
- 1 day floor orientation with a preceptor
- 3rd day working independently
Scheduling & Floating
- Travelers scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met
- Floating required; travelers float first to any MedSurg units and may float to Telemetry with patients within their skill set
Additional Information
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets allowed only if royal blue scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
- All submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license
- Call/standby: May be called off for low census depending on contract specifics (discuss with recruiter)
