Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), Monday through Friday
- On-Call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends
- Holiday Requirements: Holiday call may be required
- Work Hours: 36 hours per week
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience
- OR experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
- Completed and accurate I-9 form and work eligibility attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including national and state criminal checks
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if verification is pending
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search (for sub vendors)
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3) through a third-party vendor
Health and Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam, updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Radiation badge process must be completed before starting clinical work; badges may take 5-7 days to arrive
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required by Wednesday end of day prior to start
- Completion of orientation modules and OurDay platform training prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into OurDay platform
- Physical assessment form required for sterile processing techs (not applicable for this RN role)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam for OR required; pediatric OR candidates may use regular OR competency exam if no pediatric experience
Additional Notes
- Local radius rule: 60 miles
- Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2-week pay period (hours can be broken down)
- During hurricane season (June–November, peak Aug-Sept), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; consider this before accepting assignment
This position is ideal for experienced Operating Room Registered Nurses comfortable with general OR cases and robotic surgery, seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment.
