Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee

Unit Overview

• Med-Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
• Patient ratios: 1:5-6 for RNs, 1:12-15 for Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Staffing includes RN/LPN teams and PCTs; unit secretaries available until 8 PM on weekdays
• Equipment used: Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Scheduling requires at least one weekend shift within a 4-week period (may be split)
• Floating is at the unit’s discretion
• Patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

• Ability to quickly adapt and learn in a fast-paced environment
• Effective communication, punctuality, organization, teamwork, and a positive attitude

Procedures and Patient Care

• Care for general medical-surgical patients including post-catheterization (without intervention), laparoscopic appendectomy/cholecystectomy, thoracentesis/paracentesis
• Exposure to special procedures performed by Interventional Radiology
• Care for stable trauma patients, hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and patients on a dedicated spine and joint unit
