Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Travel Position

Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide independent nursing care in a MedSurg unit focusing on post-surgical patients, including orthopedics, general surgery, and neuro populations. Deliver routine and complex care, manage clinical contingencies, and delegate appropriately to other care providers.


Work Schedule

  • Day shift: 7 AM – 7 PM
  • Full-time
  • Weekend scheduling based on need; weekends may be required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating to other units is a possibility

Patient Population

  • MedSurg patients with a focus on post-surgical care (orthopedics, general surgery)
  • Neuro populations

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care following the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
  • Address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
  • Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess patient and caregiver learning needs and provide education accordingly
  • Meet professional nursing competencies and standards of practice

Additional Information

  • Temp-to-perm opportunity may be available
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 5:1 to 6:1 depending on staffing

This position does not require prior travel experience.
