Description

Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit during night shifts.
  • Must have a minimum of 18 months recent permanent experience in Med/Surg Telemetry prior to travel assignment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID) must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA-compliant 7-year search and education verification.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask (N95) fit test within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with annual updates)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Baseline competency exams in medication administration and ECG interpretation required at orientation (90% and 80% passing scores respectively).
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for exam preparation.
  • Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the same system may be exempt from some orientation requirements.

References and Work History

  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history, with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and certifications before starting.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; skipping training videos is not allowed.
  • Candidates returning after a break longer than 6 months may need to repeat orientation modules.
