Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (possible extension)
Job Description
- Work in a Cardiac/Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio based on acuity; unit may include overflow patients requiring step-down level care.
- Must have experience with direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR.
- Skilled in cardiac surgery patient care including:
- Pressure monitoring
- Swan-Ganz catheter management
- Impella device monitoring
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Activated Clotting Time (ACT) experience is mandatory.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: Cerner.
- Blocked schedules considered only if requesting weekends exclusively (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon).
- Scrubs are not provided.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification.
- Experience with Activated Clotting Time (ACT).
- Experience with direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR.
- Proficient in cardiac surgery patient care including:
- Pressure monitoring
- Swan-Ganz catheter management
- Impella device monitoring
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Candidates must submit a single PDF containing:
- Complete candidate profile including work history.
- Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually).
- Minimum two clinical manager or charge nurse references from the past 2 years.
- RN license verification (must be current within 2 days of submission).
- Copies of all required certifications.
Background and Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually.
- Federal exclusions and sanctions checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required.
- Drug screen: 10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers (preferred or required):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or IGRA within 2 years) or chest X-ray if history positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer within 2 years or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, 3-series vaccine, or declination)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 13 – Apr 1). Declinations not permitted.
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific Care Learning Modules prior to start.
- Completion of Cerner EMR training modules before orientation.
- ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed by facility deadlines.
- Photo for badge required prior to clearance.
- Completion of facility-specific forms including background drug screen consent, non-disclosure agreements, parking pass, and contractor forms.
- Point of Care Technician Application required for Cath Lab RNs (if applicable).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during working hours.
- Color blindness testing and competency exams may be required as applicable.
- Workers compensation documentation is preferred but not mandatory.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac ICU environment requiring advanced cardiac surgical nursing skills and critical care expertise.
