Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU/Pediatric (Travel/Contract)

Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4x12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work in both neonatal and pediatric units based on facility needs.
  • Schedule options include 3x12 or 4x12 shifts.
  • No on-call duties.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) requests require facility approval.
  • Local pay rate is slightly reduced compared to travel rate.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Pennsylvania
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Neonate or Pediatric patients
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint clearance within 90 days of start (all pages required).
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search within 90 days of start.
  • Pennsylvania PATCH and Medicheck search results required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification for highest level completed.
  • Employment application with 7 years of complete work history and explanations for gaps over 90 days.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 2 months of start.
  • Fit test for respirator use (annual clearance required starting 04/07/2025).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
  • Negative TB test (QGold or T-Spot within 90 days, or 2 PPDs with one within 90 days).
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declinations not accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (clinical staff only).
  • COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination with facility-specific form.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (9-panel without THC acceptable).
  • Annual updates not required for most health documents except respirator clearance.

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (for RRT).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (updated annually).
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication (required for RNs/LVNs; note this role is RRT).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail testing (applicable to RNs/LVNs).

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required for new candidates starting 3/31/2025 or later (recent, color, forward-facing, no hats/masks).
  • Badge request form required for new candidates starting before 3/30/2025.
  • Facility-specific affidavit for provisional employment must be completed prior to start.
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Return-to-office requests must be approved by the facility.
  • Traveler will be working in a Level 3 or higher NICU and/or PICU setting.
