Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Melrose, Minnesota
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Emergency Room Registered Nurse with float to Medical-Surgical units
  • Floating required to multiple campuses within the region
  • Shift Options: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) or Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum every third weekend, possibly every weekend or every other weekend depending on unit needs
  • On-call: Not required
  • Patient Ratios: Day shift 1:4, Night shift 1:6
  • Locals not accepted within 50 miles of facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Flexible scheduling with potential block schedules based on unit needs
  • No more than 10 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed per assignment
  • No RTO allowed within the first week of assignment
  • Contracted hours guaranteed

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within one year of start date, including:
    • 7-year search, SS trace, counties, sex offender, nationwide checks
    • Education verification (not required for CNAs)
    • International background checks if candidate has lived/worked outside the US
  • GSA/SAM and OIG excluded provider checks required
  • Primary source verification of state license required
  • Minnesota DHS NetStudy Fingerprint clearance required prior to start (cannot start with fingerprints pending unless approved “more time needed” letter)
  • Physical exam within one year of start date
  • Drug testing (9-panel) within one year of start date (not required for client clearance but must be set up)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccination (no religious declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per MN state guidelines
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) positive titer or 2 vaccines (time sensitive)
    • Varicella positive titer or 2 vaccines (time sensitive)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination, positive titer, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (mask required if declined)

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required annually (not required for NICU RNs)
  • Skills checklist and work history verification required
  • Two professional references from recent employers within 2 years required
  • Candidate must complete facility-specific education modules (approx. 16 hours) during orientation
  • Dress code: RNs wear black scrubs
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: Free in main lot
  • Candidates must submit a photo for badge with specific guidelines (grey background, no selfies, JPG format)
  • Candidates must sign confidentiality agreement prior to start
  • Badge must be returned on last day of assignment

Special Notes

  • Floating to Medical-Surgical units and multiple campuses is mandatory within scope of practice
  • OB experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Candidates cannot live within 50 miles of the facility
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position

This position offers a critical access hospital environment with 89 staffed beds, providing a diverse and dynamic clinical experience in emergency nursing with opportunities to float to medical-surgical units.
