Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU 4E, 4th Floor East Wing
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0630)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), 4th Floor East Wing
Number of Beds: 55
Patient Population: Adults primarily; occasionally patients 15 years and older
Unit Details
- RN-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (both day and night shifts)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Nursing assistant support available
- Charge nurse present
- Additional support staff: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy
- Common patient diagnoses: Stroke (CVA, TIA), shortness of breath, COVID-19, subdural hematoma, weakness
- Common medications/drips: PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, insulin
- Specialty equipment: Mechanical lifts in every other room
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- EMR system: EPIC
- Telemetry competency required
- Scrubs: Navy blue for RNs
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail skills exam during orientation (open book)
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application (used to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius)
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
Additional Information
- Float assignments expected, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas, based on unit needs
- Patient experience focus: hourly rounding and responsiveness
- Unit culture: tight-knit team environment with strong peer support
- Staffing challenges present on the unit
Restrictions
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
This position is ideal for RNs experienced in telemetry and progressive care who thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and are comfortable managing a diverse adult patient population.
