Description
Surgical Tech – Cardiovascular Operating Room
Location: Sacramento, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a very busy, fast-paced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with 4 suites.
- Support 8 to 10 heart surgeries per day, including CABG and valve procedures (no thoracic surgeries).
- Utilize Cerner EMR system.
- Must be confident and experienced in CVOR skills.
- Scrub color provided.
- Telemetry skills required: ability to read and interpret EKG strips.
- Ventilator and respiratory therapy support available 24/7.
- Surgeon available 24/7 during regular hours, call overnight, and weekends.
- Pharmacy available 24/7.
- Call schedule includes overnight call once a week.
- Staff required to cover approximately 3 weekend days per month (1 to 1.5 weekends).
- Holidays rotate with core staff.
- Floating to other Sacramento facilities is rare but possible.
- Orientation includes 1-2 days in OR with a preceptor.
Schedule
- 10-hour day shifts, five days per week (40 hours total).
- Two shift start times: 6 AM and 10 AM.
- Overnight call once a week.
- Weekend coverage required as noted above.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Additional Information
- No regular weekend shifts, but weekend call is required.
- Mid-shift floating to other facilities is rare.
- Strong CVOR experience and confidence in skills are essential.
