Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery

Location: Americus, Georgia
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Shift: Nights (6:45 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)


Unit Details

  • Unit: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) and Level 2 NICU
  • Hospital Size: 54 beds total
  • L&D Beds: 10 LDRP beds, including 1 C-section suite on unit (OR occasionally used)
  • Triage Beds: 4
  • Birth Volume: Approximately 30-60 births per month
  • Nursery Census: Average, stable patients (32 weeks gestation or greater without major maternal risk factors)
  • Nurse Aides/OB Techs: 2 LPNs and 2 OR techs assist with C-sections, discharges, and secretarial duties
  • Call: Travelers do not take call
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Coverage: Rotates with permanent staff

Patient Care & Responsibilities

  • Follow ACOG guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
  • Charge Nurse duties include managing postpartum patients and running charge nurse responsibilities for Nursery and LDRP
  • C-section experience required (ability to circulate in OR; OR techs scrub)
  • May float to NICU if experienced
  • Common patient diagnoses: stable antepartum patients (e.g., magnesium sulfate therapy, hyperemesis), mothers with underlying conditions like CHF are usually transferred out
  • OB in-house only if patient is in labor; anesthesia present only for VBAC cases
  • IV team not available; Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Pharmacy not on-site 24/7 but accessible via nearby facility and on-call pharmacist

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery specialty experience
  • At least 1 prior travel contract completed (prior travel experience required)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (EFM) or above for LDRP
  • Must meet a strict 100-mile radius rule: the address on the traveler's driver’s license must be at least 100 miles from the facility

Orientation & Systems

  • Floor-specific orientation averages 6 shifts, depending on familiarity with charting systems
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring system currently Watch Child; transitioning to Watch Child or OBIX within 6 months

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Forest green pants and white tops (white pants allowed); scrubs not provided by hospital
  • Scrub techs wear hospital-provided scrubs daily
  • No IV team; RT available 24/7
  • Pharmacy support available off-site and on-call
  • Traveler must submit a copy of their driver’s license with application
