Description
Radiation Therapist
Location: Little River, South Carolina
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Job Summary
- Administer therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation using advanced linear accelerators, Tomotherapy, or proton therapy units.
- Record and verify treatment software and simulate patients per radiation oncologists’ prescriptions.
- Position patients accurately for treatment and adhere to radiation protection principles for patient and staff safety.
- Educate and support patients and families regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
- Maintain professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
- Contribute to training radiation therapy students and pursue ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in South Carolina
- Minimum of 2 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Certification by the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Certification by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Proof of immunizations or titers (no declinations accepted) for:
- MMR (2 immunizations or titer with lab report)
- Hepatitis B (3 vaccinations or titer with lab report)
- Varicella (2 immunizations or titer with lab report)
- COVID-19 vaccination card (fully vaccinated) is optional but recommended.
- Influenza vaccine required during September–April (medical/religious exemptions considered case-by-case).
- Tuberculosis screening:
- 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) within required timeframes, or
- Annual negative PPD or TB questionnaire if applicable.
- If positive PPD, negative chest X-ray within 90 days of start.
- Fit test for respiratory protection equipment (optional, recommended within one year of start).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (rapid drug screen not accepted).
Background and Documentation
- Criminal background check covering county, statewide, national, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS trace, and education verification within 60 days of start (covering last 7 years).
- Employment verification for the past 5 years.
- Resume/profile submission required; references preferred but not mandatory.
- Completion of clinical skills checklist prior to start and updated annually.
- Confirmation of assignment form required.

- This position requires adherence to safety standards and excellent interpersonal skills to foster a compassionate environment for patients and families.
- Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement.
