Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Nurse

Location: Anderson, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Patient Ratio: 1:6
Float Requirement: Yes, must float to other Medical Surgical units as needed
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend


Job Description

  • Work on a Medical Surgical unit with a focus on patient care and flexibility to float within similar units.
  • Night shift schedule with 36 hours per week.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.
  • Locals are also welcome to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and international background check if applicable.
  • Transcript or diploma may be required for credential verification.
  • Color blindness test (Ishihara) required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health.
  • Annual fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 90 days of start date.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 1).
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or recent performance evaluation if previously employed at the facility.
  • Completion of facility-specific online orientation and acknowledgment forms prior to start.
  • A clear, professional headshot photo for badge issuance (no visible nose piercings).

Additional Notes

  • Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work every other weekend and float as needed.
  • Pending licenses are accepted but must be active before starting.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive medical surgical environment with a defined patient ratio and a consistent night shift schedule. It is suitable for both experienced travel nurses and local candidates meeting the qualifications.
