Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location

  • Saint Paul, Minnesota

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Schedule

  • 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each
  • Shift start times: 06:45, 09:00, 11:00, 14:45
  • Weekend shifts as needed
  • On-call required as needed
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling accommodations available

Experience & Specialty Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of strong Operating Room (OR) experience, with orthopedic skills required
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Locals within 50-mile radius not accepted

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Minnesota accepted, including pending license status
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC; RQI acceptable; certificate of completion not accepted)
  • Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) required as applicable per unit/job description
  • Medication and competency exams required annually

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute care teaching hospital with Level 3 trauma designation
  • 317 staffed beds
  • Scrubs provided
  • Electronic charting system: Epic (Excellian)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year MN statewide search)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year
  • Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance mandatory before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a “more time needed” letter is provided
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B: proof of immunity, vaccination series, or signed declination
    • Varicella: proof of immunity or vaccination series (no exemptions)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted, exemptions not)
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start
  • Drug testing not required for client clearance but must be within 1 year if completed

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge: passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules within 72 hours of receiving access (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
  • Skills checklist required annually
  • References not required for client clearance but required for per diem candidates
  • No more than 5 days off allowed during contract (RTO restrictions)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Orthopedics experience
