Job Opportunity: Certified OB Tech

Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Work Hours: 36 hours per week

Job Description

  • Position is for a Certified OB Tech working in surgical services.
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed; OR/Cath Lab scrub provided.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
  • Experience as an OB Technician.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable for I9 verification).
  • E-Verify attestation required.
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • State-specific searches as applicable (Oregon Abuse/Neglect Search if assigned to certain facilities).
  • WA State Patrol Search required for Washington and border facility placements (not required for this Oregon facility).
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting.
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment.
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
  • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel candidates, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and documentation:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.

Training and Competency

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Competency exams required by specialty.
  • Color blindness testing if specifically requested.
  • EFM training required for Labor & Delivery RNs only (not applicable here unless specified).
  • Medication Aide exam required for Trained Medication Assistants in LTC Oregon facilities only (not applicable here).

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge: Passport-style photo with neutral background required.
  • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS (Workramp).
  • Float policy acknowledgment: Traveler may be required to float to other facilities within reasonable distance.

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Certified OB Tech in surgical services, working night shifts in a short-term acute care teaching hospital in Portland, Oregon. The role requires weekend work every other weekend, no on-call duties, and a 1:1 patient ratio. Candidates must meet comprehensive licensure, certification, background, health, and training requirements as outlined above. Prior travel experience is not required.
