Job Opportunity: Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum Nurse

Location: Frederick, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Description

  • 27-bed Family Center LDRP unit specializing in couplet care, newborn assessment, and antepartum patient services.
  • Responsibilities include care for Labor & Delivery (excluding triage and circulating), Postpartum, Newborn, and Antepartum patients.
  • Floating to Labor and Delivery to support LDRP needs is expected.
  • Unit covers Labor & Delivery, Recovery, Antepartum, and Postpartum care.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • Minimum 3 years of Maternal-Newborn nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Current C-EFM (Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification
  • Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • Current TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification

Scheduling

  • Rotating holidays and weekends required.
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated.
  • No on-call responsibilities.

Certifications & Competencies

  • C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification required.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent).
  • Additional certifications preferred or required depending on unit specifics (e.g., ACLS, NRP) but not explicitly required here.
  • Pass/fail testing and net learning modules related to orientation and pharmacology must be completed prior to start.
  • Must score 80% or higher on required exams; multiple attempts allowed except for dysrhythmia exam (not applicable here).

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, and education verification.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and updated annually).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; two-step PPD or equivalent testing required.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declination allowed)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).
  • Fit mask testing required prior to start (specific mask types mandated).

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Proof of two clinical references within the last 12 months required.
  • Completed employment application/resume.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Completion of facility-specific net learning modules and pass/fail testing required 1 week prior to start.
  • Photo for badge must be submitted in JPEG format; no nose rings allowed in photo.

  • The position offers a suburban lifestyle with proximity to Baltimore and Washington DC.
  • The area features mountainous views, restaurants, shopping, parks, and historic districts.
  • The facility will provide login information and support for required online modules.
  • Candidates are not reimbursed for time spent completing orientation modules.

This role is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery nurses with strong couplet care skills who have prior travel nursing experience and are ready to work night shifts in a dynamic family-centered unit.
