Description

Registered Nurse – ER Holding (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Patient Population

  • Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics

Shift Details

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week
  • 12 hours per shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Total 36 hours per week

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for ER settings
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (may be required depending on unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • State RN License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams as required
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)

Staffing Ratio

Required Background and Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS Trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting with specific code (3701.881) required within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccination
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required for contracts signed 5/19/25 and beyond
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Background check and fingerprinting results must be approved before start; pending fingerprint attestation required if results are not finalized
  • Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here)

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse experience, including experience within the last year
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
