Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room.
- Focus on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
- Assist in maintaining a financially stable unit and promote professional development with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
- Supervise licensed and non-licensed staff members.
- Apply the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Provide patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Mentor and precept staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform assessments and reassessments according to policy or patient condition.
- Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
- Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Clinical experience in orthopedics, trauma, spine, ENT surgery, and general surgery cases.
Shift Details
- Day shift: 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM (10-hour shifts).
- Work includes Fridays.
- Call every 5th weekend from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
- Total hours per week: 40.
Additional Notes
- The RN is expected to function as a mentor/preceptor and participate actively in practice governance and quality improvement efforts.
