ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift

Location: Wickenburg, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Facility & Unit Overview

• Emergency Department with 8 beds (Level IV Trauma)
• Fast Track area with 2 chairs, intermixed with main ED
• Separate triage area; travelers assist in triage
• No separate psych/seclusion rooms
• No 24/7 in-house security
• Average patient volume: 25-30 per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Patient population includes pediatrics to older adults, common diagnoses include stroke and STEMI stabilization before transfer
• Common critical care drips used; nurses mix drips
• Physician coverage during the day; NP coverage at night with MD nearby for emergencies
• Charge nurse on each shift (typically not a traveler) manages patient load
• Support staff includes paramedic/ED tech (7a-7p) for transfers and blood draws
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7, floats through facility
• Radiology (X-ray/CT) nearby; rad tech transports patients unless critical
• Nurses perform most blood draws

Schedule & Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 twelve-hour shifts per week)
• Approximately 36 hours per week
• Weekend shifts assigned based on department needs (no guaranteed every other weekend)
• Holiday work is expected
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating required

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year ER nursing experience, including pediatric to adult patient care
• Experience in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) or small facility preferred
• Strong IV and blood draw skills required
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor
• Dress code: Clean, professional scrubs; no specific color required

Additional Notes

• Nurses may be involved in triage and care across the ED
• No monitor techs; MindRay monitors used
• Ventilator support available; nurses initiate vents before transfer if stable
