Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU
Location

Unit and Patient Care Details
- Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (20 beds total)
- 8 beds in Cardiac ICU (CICU)
- 12 beds in Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient population: Adult and Geriatric
- Patient ratios:
- Intermediate care patients: 1:3
- Critical care patients: 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity
- Common diagnoses and treatments:
- CICU: Post-op CABG, AVR, MVR, vascular and endovascular surgery, cardiac interventional services including ECMO, heart failure requiring Impella device support, angioplasty, and stent placement
- PCU: Above diagnoses plus sepsis, respiratory and multi-system failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, encephalopathy, and post-op general surgical patients requiring higher level of care
- Equipment used: Impella, Balloon pump, ECMO/Tandem Heart, ceiling lifts, hoyer lifts, sit-to-stand lifts, extensive safe-patient handling equipment
- Electronic Health Record system: Epic
Schedule
- Shift: 18:45 – 07:15
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekends per 6-week schedule block
- Call: None
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
