Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Intermediate Care
Location: Bloomington, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Overview
- Inpatient acute care unit with 32 private rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
- Unit cares for patients with a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, Diabetes, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, respiratory conditions, neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
- Procedures and equipment include care for patients with Bipap, Cpap, tracheostomies, chest tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, ablation/cath lab patients, dialysis
- Electronic Medical Records system: EPIC
- Medication dispensing system: Pyxis
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide care for intermediate care patients with diverse medical conditions
- Must be able to read telemetries and manage chest tubes
- May float to other units: ICU (if extensive ICU experience) or General Medical floors
- Typical patient assignments: ICU (2 patients), General Medical (5-6 patients)
- Participate in holiday and weekend rotations
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and chest tube management
Orientation & Training
- One day orientation with education team
- One day floor orientation
- Training specific to inpatient acute care and 12-hour night shifts
