Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Med-Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
- Patient ratios:
- RN: 1:5-6
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs): 1:12-15
- Staffing includes RN/LPN teams and availability of techs and externs
- Equipment used: Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Scheduling requires at least one weekend shift within a 4-week period (may be split)
- Floating is at the unit’s discretion
- Patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Skills and Experience
- Strong assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Punctual, organized, team player with a positive attitude and effective communication skills
- Experience with general medical-surgical procedures including post-catheterizations (without intervention), laparoscopic appendectomy/cholecystectomy, thoracentesis/paracentesis, hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and care for stable trauma patients
