Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Med-Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
• Patient ratios:

  • RN: 1:5-6
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs): 1:12-15
• Staffing includes RN/LPN teams and availability of techs and externs
• Equipment used: Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Scheduling requires at least one weekend shift within a 4-week period (may be split)
• Floating is at the unit’s discretion
• Patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Skills and Experience

• Strong assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Punctual, organized, team player with a positive attitude and effective communication skills
• Experience with general medical-surgical procedures including post-catheterizations (without intervention), laparoscopic appendectomy/cholecystectomy, thoracentesis/paracentesis, hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and care for stable trauma patients
