Description
Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (Travel)
Location
- Wichita, Kansas
- Birth Care Suites (separate building from main hospital)
- Patients must be >37 weeks gestational age and meet low-risk criteria for delivery at this unit
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 7 PM to 7 AM shift
- 36 hours per week
Unit Information
- Birth Care Center with 20 LDRP beds and 2 operating rooms
- Night shift staffing: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 1 surgical tech, 1 admissions control tech
- Patient ratios:
- Labor: 1-2 patients per nurse
- Postpartum: 3-4 patients per nurse
- Equipment includes GE fetal monitors, Monica Novii, and Alaris pumps
- Documentation systems: CPN and Meditech EMR
- Dedicated lactation RN team supports breastfeeding
- Nurse leader rounding daily to ensure quality patient care
- Emphasis on bedside shift report, communication boards, and rounding
- Burgundy/maroon scrubs required
Patient Care & Procedures
- Labor, delivery, and postpartum care
- Vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections
- Non-stress tests (NSTs) and circumcisions
- Active labor positioning and management encouraged
- 1:1 labor support prioritized
- Unit delivers approximately 110-130 babies per month (hospital total 450-500/month)
- Cesarean section rate averages less than 10%
- Teaching hospital environment with resident involvement
- Dedicated anesthesia team for women’s services
- 24/7 hospitalist coverage for oversight and emergencies
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
- Current certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- IFMC or AWHONN certification
Preferred Skills
- Operating room circulating experience
- Experience with labor positioning/spinning babies techniques
- Ability to manage obstetric emergencies
