Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

Location

  • Shreveport, Louisiana

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Primary shift: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Must be flexible to work various shifts as needed (examples include 7:15–3:45, 8:30–5, 9:30–6, 7:15–6, 5:30–4, 5:30–2, 6–6)

Patient Population and Unit Description

  • Care for patients ranging from newborns with tubes to geriatric patients
  • Typical cases include orthopedics, general surgery, vascular, ENT, urology, and breast reconstructions
  • Ability to care for critical care patients who may require transfer to critical care units

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Valid RN license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Licenses & Certifications

  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS or ENPC certification

Additional Requirements

  • Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days
  • Precepted onboarding with competency validations specific to the Perioperative Department
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care independently in a similar clinical setting, managing routine and complex care
  • Utilize the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
  • Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
  • Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers as needed
  • Meet applicable leadership competencies related to self, others, and organizational leadership

This position requires a competent RN with perioperative or related specialty experience, flexibility in shift work, and certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC. The role involves caring for a diverse patient population including critical care transfers and requires strong clinical judgment and leadership skills.
