Description
Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Travel)
Location: Austin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Employment Type: Travel
Unit Overview
- Labor and Delivery unit with 12 LDR beds, 5 Antepartum beds, 4 OB ED beds, and 3 OR rooms
- Staff includes 72 team members (nursing, CST, schedulers)
- Day shift: 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 2 CSTs, 1 scheduler
- Night shift: 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 1 CST, 1 scheduler
- Patient ratios: 1:2 and 1:1 depending on acuity and transition
- Equipment used: Alaris Pumps, CADD epidural pumps
- EMR systems: CPN and Meditech
- Scheduling is self-managed within the team
- Positive, team-oriented culture with engaged staff and management
- Physicians maintain strong relationships with staff
- Unit recognized for quality and teamwork
Job Details
- Shift length: 12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- No call required
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per scheduling period
- Dress code: CST sky blue scrubs required
Typical Procedures
- Cesarean sections (C-sections)
- Spontaneous vaginal deliveries (SVD)
- Dilation and curettage (D&C), dilation and evacuation (D&E)
- Twin deliveries (both C-section and SVD)
- Scheduled and emergent cesarean hysterectomies
- Management of massive transfusions
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with High Risk Obstetrics patients
- Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, BLS, NRP
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PASD)
- Experience managing massive transfusion protocols

- The unit is a Level III Maternal and Level II Neonatal care center, moving toward higher designations
- Joint Commission accredited in Women’s services
- Main Emergency Department is Level II Trauma, supporting obstetrical patients with Level I and II injuries
- Highly engaged and motivated team culture with a positive outlook
- Mix of tenured staff and newer nurses (1-2 years experience) on both day and night shifts
- Management frequently rounds on night and weekend shifts to support staff
