Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Adult Medical-Surgical (4 West)
• Number of Beds: 34
• Staffing (Day Shift): 1 Charge RN, 6-7 RNs, 3 CNAs, 1 HUC
• Staffing (Night Shift): 1 Charge RN, 5-7 RNs, 2 CNAs, 1 HUC
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day Shift: 1 RN to 4-6 patients
  • Night Shift: 1 RN to 5-7 patients
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner
• Floating Areas: Other med-surg units, occasionally the holding pod of the Emergency Department
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Job Responsibilities & Skills

• Assess medical-surgical level patients and monitor telemetry rhythms
• Critical thinking and time management skills required
• Communicate effectively and alert Charge RN, Manager, Rapid Response, or Provider when patient acuity changes
• Perform typical procedures including IV fluids, tube feedings, PEG feedings, and IV antibiotics
• Team player willing to assist CNAs and other nurses
• Attend unit huddles at shift start (06:50 AM or 06:50 PM)
• Must clock in/out for meal breaks and adhere to shift start times (no earlier than 06:38 AM or 06:38 PM)
• Weekend shifts: approximately 6 per pay period (every other weekend)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience and ability to monitor telemetry rhythms
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
