Description
Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Unit: 23-bed Med Surg unit
Job Details
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience required
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Must work every other weekend
- No on-call requirement
- Floating within scope of practice as needed
- Open to block scheduling (discuss with manager)
- Local candidates accepted without radius restrictions
- Must have an active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process with ETA
- PICC line management and IV start experience required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting preferred
- Facility is an acute care hospital, Level I trauma center, Magnet designated
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) certification
- ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- PICC line management experience
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, indicating good physical and mental health, ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B) or signed declinations
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry results required for clinical candidates without an IL license (must be done in Illinois)
- Education verification and professional references required
- Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required before start
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
- Magnet designated facility and Level I trauma center
- Scrub color: any solid color
- Parking permit required but no cost for parking
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs (up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment)
- Candidates ideally should have no more than 5 days of return-to-office (RTO) restrictions
- Candidate must review and sign facility code of conduct and other facility-specific documents within 7 days of contract signing
This position is ideal for a Med Surg RN with at least 1 year of experience, night shift preference, and flexibility to float and work every other weekend in a Level I trauma, Magnet designated acute care hospital.
