Occupational Therapist - Acute Therapy

Location

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday to Friday
  • 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week

Job Summary

  • Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
  • Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians.
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, patient responses, and discharge recommendations according to regulatory and organizational standards.

Patient Population & Setting

  • Inpatient opportunities in a Level 1 Trauma center with approximately 500 beds.
  • 20-bed inpatient rehab unit with over 50% neuro cases including CVA, TBI, non-TBI, SCI, lower extremity amputation, and multi-trauma.
  • Acute occupational therapy caseload of about 170 patients.
  • Experience with NICU and pediatric patients required.

Essential Functions

  • Perform patient transfers safely with assistance as needed.
  • Use safe body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
  • Conduct examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints.
  • Screen patients to determine therapy needs and effectiveness.
  • Utilize standardized outcome measures to assess functional performance.
  • Provide family training and education.
  • Monitor and provide feedback to support personnel.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Experience working with Neonate or Pediatric patients
