Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 07:00)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Must have critical care experience within the last 12 months.
- Pediatric experience preferred but not required; training in pediatrics is available.
- Required to work all scheduled shifts; no accommodations outside approved time off.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Patient population includes adult trauma, burns, medically and neurologically complicated cases, tracheostomy patients, spinal cord injury, and complex sleep-disordered breathing.
- Units served: Burn ICU (BPICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU), Neuroscience ICU (NSICU), and a busy Emergency Department with ECLS transfers.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- Open to block scheduling.
- Local candidates accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience working with adult patients.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Critical care experience within the last 12 months.
- Ventilator management experience.
Required Skills
- Monitoring and ventilator management.
- Oxygen therapy.
- Experience with trauma and adult ICU patients.
Facility Highlights
- Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level I trauma center.
- Approximately 500 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Epic with hard stops.
- Scrub color: Any solid color scrubs allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (details provided during onboarding).
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start.
- Must run checks including nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 1, and state-specific searches.
- Education verification required.
- WA WATCH search required.
- Photo for badge required (professional quality, waist-up, clear lighting, simple background).
- License acknowledgment and other facility-specific forms must be signed.
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
- Influenza vaccination or declination required annually during flu season.
- Tdap vaccine required within 10 years or declination on file.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Fit mask test required within 12 months of start.
- Drug screening within past 12 months required by agency (not by facility).
- Various immunizations or titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with declination options and protocols for boosters/titers).
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington.
- Two professional references required.
Orientation and Competency Testing
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing with an 80% passing score required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required prior to start for ICU and related units.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams required.
- Additional unit-specific certifications may be required (e.g., ACLS preferred for ICU).
- Annual stroke education required for nurses in neuro and ICU units.
- Modules must be completed before start date; orientation testing occurs onsite.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and training modules prior to start.
- Physical exam within 1 year is recommended but not required by the facility.
- PAPR training available onsite if fit test is failed.
- Facility does not accommodate scheduling requests outside approved time off.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
