Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Job Description

• Work in a Level I Trauma Center with 16 OR suites, routinely running 12-14 rooms.
• Patient types include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Ortho (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General, Pediatrics, and Transplants. Small volume of ENT and Plastic procedures.
• Expected to scrub or circulate (both preferred).
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Float across multiple campuses within the local area.
• Scrubs provided.
• EMR system: EPIC.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of current Operating Room experience (hospital/medical center experience prioritized).
• Experience circulating and/or scrubbing in the OR; scrub experience highly preferred.
• Experience with General, DaVinci Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma cases required.
• Additional experience highly preferred in Neurology, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Gynecology, Urology, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, and Vascular cases.
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience highly preferred.
• EPIC electronic medical record experience within the last 3 years required.
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 15 months (no first-time travelers).
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license required at time of submission.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Skills checklist specific to Operating Room nursing (scrub/scrubbing) required.
• Professional reference or performance evaluation from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the last 24 months preferred.

Work Conditions & Additional Information

• Orientation dates available in late June.
• Contractors required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Night and holiday overtime paid at 1.15x; callback at 1.5x with a 2-hour minimum; on-call pay provided.
• Billable overtime applies after 40 hours/week (or 48 hours/week depending on schedule).
• Patient ratio typically 1:1 in a 16-bed unit.
