OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Variable shifts including nights, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
  • Night shift example: 4x10 hours (18:30 - 07:00).
  • Call required Monday-Friday from 9:00 PM to 6:30 AM.
  • Weekend shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 6:30 AM) with call; weekend and holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs.
  • Call and weekend coverage are mandatory.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year required.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is part of the job.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required with specific Ohio codes; must be completed within 1 year of start. New fingerprinting required if there is a break in service over 90 days or if previous results are older than 1 year.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
  • Education accreditation confirmation required immediately after contract signing. Candidates must have graduated from accredited programs relevant to their discipline.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test.
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines. Titers must be drawn 28+ days after booster.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation. Boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series required; signed declination acceptable.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask. Contract candidates cannot receive flu vaccine onsite.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start; new travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.

Competency & Training Requirements

  • Unit-specific competency exam required.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually for all RNs (not applicable for this role).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.

Additional Information

  • Parking permits available for agency staff with various options (costs subject to change).
  • Facility-specific policies and compliance documents must be reviewed and acknowledged as required.

This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Technologists with trauma and neurosurgery experience who are flexible with variable shifts and call responsibilities.
