    Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract

    Location: Silverdale, Washington
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Overview

    Seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a busy trauma center with approximately 56 beds (expandable to 60-70 with hall beds). The ER includes a fast track area (6 beds), a separate triage area (5 beds), and an 18-bed holding area for inpatients awaiting placement. The unit also has a locked hall with 6 private psychiatric/seclusion rooms.


    Work Environment & Patient Care

    • Patient volume: Approximately 170-200 patients per day
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:3; can be 1:4 for low acuity patients
    • Common patient diagnoses: Cardiac issues, stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), altered mental status (AMS), respiratory problems, abdominal pain, and mental health cases
    • ER nurses manage their own ER holds; inpatient RNs may float to assist
    • Support staff includes ED techs, CNAs, paramedics, and 1:1 patient sitters
    • Physicians and mid-level providers are present in the ED
    • In-house security is available

    Certifications & Licenses Required

    • Active Washington State RN license or Compact RN license
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification preferred

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
    • Candidates with 1 year of experience in larger trauma settings may be considered
    • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

    Orientation & Scheduling

    • Orientation includes 1 day (8-10 hours) of compliance and policy training plus 1 day (12 hours) of department-specific orientation
    • Shifts: Evening and Night, 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
    • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
    • Holiday requirement: Must work holidays in November and December; one holiday off may be granted if unit demands allow
    • No floating to other units required
    • No call or standby requirement; extra shifts available but not mandatory
    • Dress code: Any professional scrub colors

    Technology & Equipment

    • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Epic
    • Respiratory therapy equipment managed by RTs (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen)
    • ED techs perform EKGs; RTs perform ABGs and breathing treatments
    • Telemetry monitors present; RNs interpret cardiac strips
    • Radiology (X-ray, CT) located adjacent to ED with transport assistance available
    • Phlebotomy primarily performed by nurses or ED techs; lab assists with difficult draws

    Additional Notes

    • Manager conducts phone interviews after profile review
    • Scheduling is based on department needs; same shift requests for multiple travelers cannot be accommodated
    • No return-to-origination (RTO) requests considered during the first full week of assignment
    • Shift times may include 3pm-3am
