Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery

Location: Americus, Georgia
Contract Length: 17 weeks

Job Overview

• Position in a smaller 54-bed hospital with a Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit and Level 2 NICU.
• Unit includes 10 LDRP beds, 1 C-section suite on unit, and 4 triage beds.
• Approximately 30-60 births per month.
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff.
• No call requirement for travelers.
• Charge nurse responsibilities included (usually postpartum patients).

Patient Population & Care

• Care for mothers 32 weeks gestation or greater without major maternal risk factors.
• Some antepartum care for stable patients (e.g., magnesium sulfate, hyperemesis).
• Mothers with significant conditions like CHF are typically transferred out.
• Occasional floating to NICU if experienced.

Required Certifications & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery specialty.
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel contract.
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (EFM) or above for LDRP.
• C-section experience required (ability to circulate in OR; OR techs scrub).

Orientation & Systems

• Floor-specific orientation averages 6 shifts, depending on familiarity with charting systems.
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Meditech.
• Fetal Heart Monitoring system currently Watch Child; transitioning to Watch Child or OBIX within 6 months.

Work Environment & Team

• Nurse aides and OB techs assist with C-sections, secretarial duties, discharges, etc.
• Anesthesia present only if patient is in labor or for VBAC cases.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7.
• Pharmacy not on-site 24/7 but accessible via nearby facility and on-call pharmacist.
• IV team not available.

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Strict 100-mile radius rule: traveler’s driver’s license address must be at least 100 miles from the facility.
• Scrub attire: forest green pants and white tops (white pants allowed); scrubs not provided by hospital. Hospital scrubs provided only for C-section cases.
• OB in-house coverage only during labor.

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs seeking a travel contract in a community hospital setting with a focus on LDRP and Level 2 NICU care.
