Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Medical/Surgical unit with mixed Stepdown (SD) and Acute Care (MS) patients
Patient Population:

• Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
• Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
• Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision
• Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
• Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments
• Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
• Obtain and monitor physiological data, intervening as necessary
• Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
• Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
• Delegate tasks to support staff
• May work on either Medical/Surgical or Stepdown patients depending on staffing and acuity
• This is NOT a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Med/Surg nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
• Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients preferred
• Transplant experience preferred (kidney, liver, pancreas)
• Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

• The unit cares for both medical/surgical and stepdown patients, with nurses assigned based on availability and skill set
• ICU nurses may be floated to work on the stepdown patients depending on acuity
• Close monitoring and timely medication delivery are critical components of patient care on this unit
