Description
Surgical Technologist - Contract Position
Location: Sitka, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Tuesday to Friday, 10 hours per day
Hours per Week: 40 hours
On-Call: Yes, backup call for emergency cases requiring two surgical technicians
Job Description
- Assist in advanced and complex surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision
- Anticipate surgeon preferences for materials and instruments and prepare accordingly
- Set up sterile tables with instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions needed for surgeries
- Disassemble, clean, and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization within scope of duties
- Monitor supplies and instruments to ensure sterility and maintain quality assurance
- Inventory and order assigned service supplies as needed
- Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the department
- Provide input on policy, procedure, and patient care standard improvements
- Participate in assigned committees and perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited surgical technologist training program
- Surgical Technologist Certification (CST)
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience within the last year
- Must have or obtain flu vaccination
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical instrumentation and materials
- Wound healing processes and potential complications
- Normal growth, development, and behavioral characteristics relevant to patient care
- Sterile technique and instrument processing
- Patient positioning during surgery
- Ability to respond to intraoperative requests and adapt to changing patient needs
Additional Information
- Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the facility location to be eligible
- Housing and flights are not provided as part of this contract
- Rate is all-inclusive (pay details not disclosed)
