Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location
- Decatur, Illinois
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift Options:
- 4 shifts of 12 hours (days or nights)
- 3 shifts of 12 hours (nights: 1900-0730)
- Patient Census: Average daily census of 120 in a 32-bed Emergency Department
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 for all shifts
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Weekend work as needed
- Must float within scope to meet facility needs
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Obtain 12-lead EKGs
- IV Therapy & Phlebotomy:
- Blood product administration
- Central line care/management
- Phlebotomy and IV starts
- Medication Administration:
- Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
- Emergency medications
- IV vasopressors
- Procedural sedation
- Neurological Cases:
- CVA, ICP monitoring, neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedic Cases:
- Ortho-trauma
- Pediatric Cases:
- Abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury, hyperglycemia, abuse identification/reporting, infections, mental/behavioral health, near drowning, poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures, sickle cell crisis, skin disorders, spinal cord injury, urinary tract infections
- Psychiatric Cases:
- Acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, psychiatric holds, suicidal patients
- Respiratory Cases:
- Chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation, intubation, ventilated patients
- Shock/Trauma Cases:
- Gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation
- Additional Skills:
- Isolation precautions, triage, telemetry interpretations, ventilator management
- Preferred:
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
- Previous charge nurse experience
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Licensure
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license or eligible to obtain prior to start
Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- 280 total staffed beds
- Royal blue scrub color
- Electronic charting via Cerner
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions within 30 days of start
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within one year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask testing required prior to start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunization or documented immunity for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year of start
- Competency exam and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required
- Badge photo required prior to start
- Must review and sign facility code of conduct and other facility-specific documents within 7 days of contract signing
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification
- Current TNCC certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Proficient in blood product administration
- Skilled in IV vasopressor administration
- Competent in procedural sedation administration
- Experienced in chest tube insertion and management
- Skilled in CPAP and BiPAP management
- Proficient in intubation techniques
