Job Opportunity: Interim Leader - Med Surg

Position Overview

• Interim leadership role overseeing Surgical Services.
• Responsible for managing multiple departments including Cath Lab, OR, Endo, PACU, Pre-op, and C-section procedures performed by OR staff.
• Lead a team of approximately 30 full-time employees.
• The role requires a hands-on, seasoned director familiar with the entire perioperative environment (OR, Preop, PACU, SPD, Endo).
• Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Facility & Unit Profile

• Hospital with 52 medical/surgical beds, 12 acute rehabilitation beds, 12 intensive care beds, and an 8-bed labor/delivery/post-partum unit.
• 16-bed emergency department operating 24/7.
• Surgery department includes 6 major operating rooms and 2 endoscopy suites.
• Cardiac catheterization unit and advanced diagnostic imaging available.
• Monthly surgery volume (December data):

  • Endoscopy: 34 cases / 36 procedures
  • Operating Room: 98 procedures
  • Cath Lab: 23 procedures
• Types of cases include Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology, Podiatry, and ENT (ENT cases returning).
• OR call schedule: 24/7 coverage with OR take call from 3:00 AM to 6:30 AM (crew arrives at 6:30 AM).
• No elective surgeries on weekends, but cases may be performed if they arise.
• Strong collaborative relationship with physician and anesthesia groups.
• No block scheduling or major scheduling issues reported.
• One OR nurse manages the surgical board; director ensures proper oversight.
• Electronic Health Records used: CQI and Medhost.
• Employee engagement challenges noted within OR staff.
• Patient satisfaction scores available but not detailed.

Contract Details

• Contract length: 12 weeks
• Full-time, 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona
• Minimum of 1 year of perioperative experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience in Director or leadership roles within perioperative services
• Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) experience
• Ability and willingness to be hands-on in leadership and operational roles

• Ensure smooth operation across all perioperative departments under leadership.
