Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a focus on telemetry and complex patient care. This is a travel/contract position requiring night shifts and weekend work every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Intermediate Care experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Post cardiac angiogram care
- Post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Pre/post cardiac surgery care
- Sheath removal and TR Band management
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Arterial line management
- Central line care and management
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- Care for craniotomy patients
- Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients
- Pre/post neurosurgery care
- Care for spinal cord injury patients
- Care for traumatic brain injury patients
- Orthopedic trauma care
- Total joint replacements care
- Skin graft care
- Care of ventilated patients
Clinical Skills & Experience Required
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- IV Therapy & Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports, blood product administration
- Peripheral line care and management
- Starting IVs
- Medication Management:
- Heparin protocols
- Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- PCA and procedural sedation administration
- Plastic Surgery: Surgical drains
- Respiratory Care:
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management
- Professional Skills:
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care including wound vac management
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
- Experience in a teaching hospital environment
- Level I trauma center experience
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital, Magnet designated, Level I trauma center
- 562 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any solid color accepted
- Charting system: Cerner
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and national databases
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
- References: Two professional references required
- Photo for Badge: Color photo required before start
- Parking: Permit required but no cost
Scheduling & Contract Details
- Guaranteed hours subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- Block scheduling possible upon discussion with manager
This position is ideal for a skilled RN with telemetry and stepdown experience seeking a night shift travel contract in an acute care, high-acuity environment.
