Description

ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work as a Critical Care Float Pool RN covering weekend day shifts with flexibility to float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
    • Neuro ICU
    • Surgical ICUs
    • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
    • Cardiology/Diagnostics
    • CVICU
    • SICU / MICU / NCCU
  • Float policy requires floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Skills and experience in:
    • Telemetry monitoring
    • Ventilator management

Competencies and Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)

Background and Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA accreditation required)
  • License verification within 30 days of start
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); mask required if declining

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies and training
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
