Description

Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • 31-bed mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Primarily medicine services
  • Care for stepdown and med/surg patients

Schedule

  • Day shift, 3 shifts per week
  • 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Total 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required

Documentation & Systems

  • EPIC electronic health record documentation
  • Omnicell medication dispensing system

Background & Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer, with boosters if low titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer, with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31) with mask requirement if declined
  • COVID vaccination not required but recommended; proof of primary vaccination accepted

Competency & Certification Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Must complete Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

  • Closest and guaranteed parking with agency permit in visitor garage
  • Shuttle service options available with varying frequency and distance from facility
