Description

Registered Nurse (Pediatrics/Pediatric Advanced Care/Pediatric ICU)

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of pediatric patients, including Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Advanced Care, and Pediatric Med/Surg patients. Utilize nursing processes, technology, and resources to deliver quality care within institutional standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of service.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Monitor pediatric patient intake and output.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as IV starts, catheter insertions, dressing changes, and medication administration with bar code scanning.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members through hourly rounding, bedside reporting, and whiteboard updates.
  • Report and/or correct safety hazards and incidents to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for suspected abuse or neglect cases.
  • Collaborate closely with Pediatric Intensivists and Pediatric Hospitalists to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 3 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pediatric nursing, patient assessment, care planning, and nursing interventions.
  • Strong skills in safety hazard reporting, documentation, IV and catheter insertion, medication administration, and mandated reporting.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
