Description

Registered Nurse – MedSurg/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; total 36 hours/week)
Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3


Job Description

  • Weekend and rotating holiday shifts required.
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed.
  • Must have experience with IV starts and telemetry patients.
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 3 years of MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience with IV starts.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted; letter of completion not accepted).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit assignment (check with recruiter).
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (verify with recruiter).

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
  • Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases.
  • Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from an accredited program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Proof of fingerprinting completion required prior to start.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation).
    • Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted).
    • Tdap – Adult dose after age 11/12 (Td or DTaP not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal supervisor.
  • Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates.
  • Skills checklist required prior to start.
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Compliance with ethics and compliance policies, reviewed and signed annually.
