Description

Registered Nurse (LDRP)

Location: Williston, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 48


Unit Overview

  • Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with 15 beds total (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)
  • 1 OR suite on the unit for C-sections
  • Approximately 58 births per month
  • Patient mix mainly obstetric/neonates, including hypertension and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
  • Aim to avoid deliveries before 36 weeks gestation
  • No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia coverage 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow), but RNs are not required to operate beyond troubleshooting
  • Telemetry monitors: Philips; Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Traceview/PIP
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Shifts: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15
  • Block scheduling only; no self-scheduling
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday requirement: every other holiday
  • Call/standby requirements depend on staffing
  • Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Responsibilities & Skills

  • Must be able to read and interpret fetal heart rate strips independently
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
  • Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips; 1:3 for couplet care
  • Float to Medsurg and ER as needed
  • Charge nurse present each shift and takes an assignment
  • Collaborate with nurse aides and surgical techs who assist with vitals, transfers, ambulation, and desk coverage due to locked unit status
  • Adaptability, critical thinking, and strong communication skills are essential for success

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Dakota
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) experience, with recent experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Previous travel nursing experience
  • Ability to titrate drips including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: maroon; scrubs provided and changed into surgical scrubs on unit
  • Floating required within skillset; permanent staff usually float first
  • Radius rule: candidates must be located within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems in the past 12 months
  • Return to office (RTO) needed upfront; no additional RTO approvals after submission
