Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Night Shift)

Shift Details
- Night shift: 18:45 – 07:15 (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Total hours per week: 48
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- No call requirement
- Float requirement: May be required to float to a nearby main campus (~32 minutes away)
Patient Population & Diagnoses
- Common diagnoses include diabetes, dementia, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, congestive heart failure, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive.

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with bowel obstruction care
- Colostomy/ileostomy management and care
- Feeding tube care and management
- Pre/Post hemodialysis management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draw
- PICC line management
- Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) management
- Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
Skills & Clinical Competencies
- Med/Surg and Med/Surg Telemetry experience
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and telemetry remote monitoring
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Care for bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy, feeding tubes
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management
- IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs, heparin, insulin, PCA
- Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- BiPAP/CPAP and high flow nasal cannula management
- Non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration
- Isolation precautions and PPE use
- Wound care including Wound Vac

- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Telemetry unit monitoring experience
- Post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post myocardial infarction care
- IV insulin protocols
- Bariatric surgery care
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Port access and management
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Substance withdrawal management
- Surgical drains care
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation
- Pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Tracheostomy care and management
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Electronic documentation proficiency
- Community hospital experience
Orientation & Training
- 24-hour unit orientation
- Must complete facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
- Must complete medication safety training and other required facility education
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates)
- Must complete annual mandatory education if applicable
Uniform
- Navy blue or white scrubs
Additional Requirements
- Must submit a passport-style photo on a solid white background for badge creation immediately after signing contract
- Must complete all required documentation including tax forms, background checks, education verification, and health screenings
- Required health documents include negative TB test or chest x-ray, immunizations or titers for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, and flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Drug screening within 6 months of start date
- Must complete physical exam if applicable (per travel agency standards)
- Must complete competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required
- Must participate in disaster response teams (Storm/Hurricane Team) and may be required to report during catastrophic events
Scheduling
- Self-scheduling type
- Contract accepts 13-20 week durations; 16 weeks is typical for this assignment
This position is suitable for RNs with Med/Surg Telemetry experience seeking a travel contract night shift role in North Carolina. Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
