Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Estimated Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week, with possible overtime
Job Description
- Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Deliver high-quality care to adult patients in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry units, including geriatric populations.
- Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work on the Telemetry/Medical-Surgical unit.
- May be required to float occasionally to nearby campuses.
- While not part of a regular call rotation, may be placed on call during low census periods and must be able to respond and arrive on-site within one hour if called in.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical record system required, with experience on a similar unit within the last 12 months.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
- Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last 12 months.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Apex Innovations.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Influenza vaccine (or facility declination) required annually by December 1 (season: Sept 1 – March 31).
- COVID-19 vaccine accepted with declination option.
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
- Tdap valid within 10 years; declination accepted.
- Negative TB test within the past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG); if history of positive TB, additional documentation required.
- Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start.
- Physician health statement within the last 12 months.
- Current driver’s license or state ID, valid throughout assignment.
Background and Verification
- Professional license verification (primary source) within 30 days of start.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
- Adult and Child Abuse registry check as required by state.
- Education verification through third party; diploma/transcripts may be required.
- Drug screen (9 panel) within 30 days of start.
- Employment eligibility verification (I-9 attestation).
- Professional references: 2 required, including 1 supervisor reference.
- Resume or professional profile required.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific skills checklist within 12 months.
- Completion of pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgment.
- Acknowledgment of EPIC registration after completion.
- Completion of facility-required background screenings and attestations within 30 days of start.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a healthcare team maintaining professional standards.
