Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float pool position covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO (Zone 1).
- No home base facility; must be able to float to any facility within the zone.
- Facilities include hospitals and medical centers up to 46 miles from Colorado Springs city center.
- Float assignments may include various units: General Medical-Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, Emergency Department Observation, ICU (low acuity holds), and PCU/Stepdown.
- Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:
- Assigned to a single facility for the week (may float within that facility)
- Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment 1–2 hours before shift start
- Shift: Days, 12 hours per day, approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
- Holiday rotation participation may be required
- Call/standby is rare and only for low census situations
Patient Population & Care
- Adult to geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses including:
- Cardiac, Neurological, Orthopedic, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, and stable long-term placement patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity
- Heparin drip titration required
- Charge nurse present on each unit, usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary (more common on night shifts)
- Nurse aides available on units
- Respiratory therapy equipment used (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience
- Prior neurological experience preferred
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Additional Information
- Candidates must be in-state for the week of orientation, even if some modules are remote
- Must secure housing that allows floating within the full 60-mile zone
- Schedule is created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; flexibility to fill gaps in permanent scheduling is expected
- All time off requests must be submitted before starting the assignment
This position is ideal for experienced MS-Telemetry RNs comfortable with floating across multiple specialties and facilities within a defined geographic zone.
