Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery (Postpartum)
Location
- Birmingham, Alabama
- Unit: Mother Baby Unit (Postpartum)
- Facility size: 27 beds
- Patient type: Postpartum couplets (mother and newborn)
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 couplets
Employment Details
- Employment type: Travel contract
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- Weekend hours: Every other Friday and Saturday required
- Call requirements: None specified
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of postpartum nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Labor and Delivery experience
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience in obstetric sepsis care
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with postpartum couplet care (mother and newborn)
Unit Information
- Equipment used:
- Alaris IV pumps
- Medela breast pumps and breastmilk warmer
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner, transitioning to EPIC after August 1, 2026
Work Environment & Culture
- Personality fit: Compassionate, family-centered caregiver with a love for mothers and babies
- Teamwork is essential
Dress Code
- Scrub color: Navy
- Unacceptable attire: No fleece or t-shirts
- Nail policy: Natural nails required
This position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized postpartum unit caring for mother-baby couplets with a supportive, family-centered team in a well-equipped hospital setting.
